זאנים מדומים. אחריכן יצאה לדרך זוהקבוצה השניה, אף היא בתעשרה חברים. רק מחוסר נשק לא יצאה אז קבוצה גדולה יותר.
כעבור יומיים חזר אחד מאנשי הקבוצה הזאת, אייזיק ניימן
(בין הניצולים בארץ), ומסר את הדברים הבאים: בשמחה עברנו
על פני כפרים, בהם נתקבלנו יפה על ידי האכרים, שידעו כי דרכנו
מוליכה אל הפרטיזאנים. עם לילה, משהגענו ליער, ישבנו לפוש.
בן־לווייתנו הפולני התרחק, באמרו, שהוא הולך להביא מים. כעבור
זמן קצר חזר ואתו כדמים—ושוב התרחק. לפתע התקיפתנו פלוגת
רוכבים ועוד לפני שהספקנו לאחוז בנשק ולהתגונן, ניטך עלינו
ברד כדורי מכונות־יריה. רק בדרך נס לא נפגעתי ונשארתי בחיים.
כאשר עזבו הגרמנים את המקום התחלתי להמלט על נפשי כל
