נכד לר׳ יחיאל וינדמן, עשיר נודע ופרנס הקהילה ב׳זאביארצ׳א.
גדל על ברכי התורה והחסידות. מנעוריו נאמן לציונות הדתית,
חסיד הרבי מפילץ. מחובשי ביהמדרש בבנדין, בר־אוריין וחדור
שאיפה להעשרת ידיעותיו בהשכלה. חובב נגינה ויודע נגן בכלי־
נגינה שונים. ידע מאות ניגונים בעל־פה, והיה לשם־דבר במסיבות
