חלה במחלה ממארת, הובל לברסלוי, בבית־החולים היהודי הנודע
נותח, אך ללא הואיל. מחלתו שקיננה בקרבו, כירסמה בבריאותו
והורידתהו שאולה. נאסף אל עמיו, בהיותו בן ס״ח שנה, בכ״ה
חשוון תרע״ד (26.11.1913). זכורה לי הלווייתו, ואני אז ילד בן 7,
כאשר עברה את סימטאות עיר־מגורנו בדרכה לבית המדרש, בו
הועמד הארון ושם הספידוהו. החוצות היו מלאים אנשים הנוהרים
אחר המטה. לשם שמירת הסדר הופקדו עשרות שוטרים, פרשים
ורגלים, ונמתחו חבלים משני עברי הרחובות. משלחות מטעם כל
קהילות פולין ורבניהן נעו בתהלוכת־תוגה רבתי זו, שהעידה
בהמוניותה עד מה נתחבב הרב המנוח על בני־העם המתאבלים על
