יכלו לעמוד בפני ההמון, שעלה עליהם עתה פי עשרה,
והחלו לסגת. הפורעים חדרו לתוך הבתים, שדדו
ורצחו ללא רחם זקנים, נשים וילדים. אח״כ פרצו
לבית־הכנסת, השמידו את כל כלי הבית, הוציאו את
ספרי התורה, קרעום וחללום. הש״ץ, ר׳ שמואל בן
יוסף חיות, שהיה שקוע אותו זמן בתפילה, נרצח
באכזריות רבה. באותו יום נרצחו 102 יהודים, ולמעלה
