ל״מקום עבודה" . אומללים אלה הובאו על פי רוב
לחצר בית־הסוהר שברחוב לונצקי . פעם בפעם התפרצו
לחצר המוני אוקראינים בצעקות־פרא : "נקם על
פטלורה , האטמן שלנו" ; והיכו יהודים רבים עד מוות .
חלק מן החטופים נעלם ולא נודעו עקבותיו , רק מתי ־
מספר הצליחו להציל את חייהם . פעולה זו נודעה בשם
"פעולת פטלורה" . נפוצו שמועות בעיר כי הגרמנים
נתנו לאוקראינים הלאומניים שלושה "ימי־חופש "
לעשות ביהודים כחפצם , למען ינקמו בהם את דם
האטמן סמיון פטלורה שנהרג בפריז ב־ 26 למאי 1926
