למדבר שממה, נותרו בו אך חורבות בהן חפשו מקלט
כנופיות של גנבים, שודדים, קבצנים וסתם אנשים
חשודים. בעיר שרד עוד מספר קטן של יהודים, שהיו
מסודרים באופן חוקי במחנות קטנים בודדים, בבתי־
קסרקטין של מפעלי־חרושת צבאיים. משמר חמור
הושם על השרידים הללו. מלבד זאת היה עוד המחנה
