זכרון לנצח. אך בלבן לא הסתפק רק בחקירות
איזוריות או מקומיות. הוא התעמק גם בחקר בעיות
המשטר הקהילתי של יהודי פולין ובתולדות הגורמים
הרוחניים־נפשיים. מחקרו על השבתאות בפולין, שהוא
המבוא לספרו "תולדות המיסטיקה היהודית בפולי ך
(שנשאר בכ״י והלך לאיבוד), ספרו העברי "לקורות
התנועה הפרנקית" ומחקרו הקטן, אך רב־הערך, שנכתב
גרמנית: "חקירות ומקורות לתולדות התנועה הפרנקית
בפולין" מראים לנו, על יסוד חומר ארכיוני חדש וכ״י
בלתי־ידועים, את השבתאות בפולין ואת הפרנקיות
באור חדש לחלוטין ומגלים לפנינו גורמים כלליים
לא־ידועים, שפעלו בהתהוות התנועות וביסודן הרעיוני.
חשיבות מרובה נודעת גם למחקריו בשטח הארגון
והמשטר הקהילתי. כבר בשנות 1910 — 1911 פרסם
