... הדבר היה בתקופת הישועים, והם העלילו שהיהודי תרם את המגרש גם לבית־כנסת וגם לכנסיה. הסכסוך הגיע לבית־המשפט, שפסק כי באין אפשרות לבנות את שני המוסדות על מגרש אחד, יש למכור את המגרש במכירה פומבית ולחלק את הכסף לשני הצדדים. יום המכירה הפומבית נקבע ליום־כפור, בידעIם כי היהודים לא יופיעו ביום זה. יהודי אחד, ליבקיביץ, ממשפחת תורמי בית־הספר ליבקוביץ, מתבולל וחופשי בדעות, בא דוקא ביום הכיפורים, וסיגרה עבה בפיו, כדי שלא יכירו בו והשתתף במכירה וזכה בה. לפנות ערב, בשעת תפילת נעילה, בא היהודי הקונה לבית־הכנסת בעיר, ניגש לרבה של לבוב, בעל "ישועות יעקב", וסיפר לו על מעשהו. הרב לחץ את ידו ואמר לו כי מובטח לו שיזכה לעולם־הבא. על מגרש זה בנו את בית־הכנסת המפואר אשר שימש את יהודי הסביבה כל השנים לתפילה ושעורים.
