... בשנת 1884 הקים המטיף לוונשטיין בית־ספר
"אהל משה" (ע״ש משה מונטיפיורי) ובו ניתן לילדים
עניים חינוך יהודי וכללי. מיד נרשמו בו 78 תלמידים.
המפעל נעזר ע״י שמעון לנדא. המטיף לוונשטיין היה
בעל דגש לאומי ורצה בחינוך הנוער ברוח יהודית
ושלא יבולע ע״י ההתבוללות הפולנית השוררת בבתי־
הספר הכלליים. אולם בתי־הספר והחדרים שנעזרו ע״י
"האליאנס" עוררו את התנגדות האדוקים. בראשותו
של הרב צבי־הירש אורנשטיין התקיימה אספה, בה
ניסה להסביר לאדוקים, שנוכח חובת הלימוד הכללית
