לרבנים בוינה ולמד שם גם פילוסופיה באוניברסיטה.
אחרי שגמר את חוק לימודיו בא ללבוב וקיבל משרה
של מורה־דת בגימנסיות. בשנות 1914 — 1915 עשה
בלבוב ואח״כ נספח לחבר המורים של בית־המדרש
למורים בלבוב. בשנות 18 — 1917 היה רב צבאי בצבא
האוסטרי. אחרי המלחמה חזר ללבוב ועסק בהוראה
בגימנסיות. כשנוסדה בשנת 1919 "אגודת בתי־ספר
עממיים ובינוניים" בלבוב בראשותו של פרופ׳ ר״ר
משה שור, נספח גם ד״ר פריינד אל הועד, יחד עם
