... לילה לילה דליקות בסוקולקה. רק הלכנו לישון, כמעט
נרדמנו והנה אש להבה, השמים בוערים. כל הדליקות היו
מחוץ־לעיר, בבתי הגויים. פעם בדרום, פעם בצפון
במזרח ובמערב. ככה לילה לילה, אף פעם אחת לא היתה
דליקה בבית יהודי. מה הדבר? נפוצו שמועות, כי
היהודים שורפים את בתי־הגויים והגרנות שלהם,
כמובן, בהלה ברחוב היהודי. הכמרים, ביום הראשון
דרשו בכנסיות שלהם, בגנות היהודים הבוגדים וביום
השני, בזמן השוק המסורתי בסוקולקה, באו הגויים
מכל הכפרים שבסביבה, התחילו להתגרות ביהודים.
גם נכנסו לחנויות היהודים, לקחו סחורה ולא שלמו,
הרכוש היהודי נעשה הפקר. המצב מתוח, לא ידוע
