לעיתים הייתה מתקיימת חגיגה ציבורית־רשמית בגינת
העיר ("בולווואר"). הדבר גרם לנו, לילדים, מקור לא
אכזב של אושר ושמחה. תזמורת מכבי־האש הייתה
יושבת בטבור הגינה ופוצחת מדי פעם בפעם במנגינות
נהדרות ומקסימות. השטח היה מלא מפה לפה, בעיקר
ילדים מכל גיל, גם נוצרים וגם יד.ודים, וד.צד.ל ה היתד .
גדולה. מעולם לא ידעו את סבת המאורע, מדיני או
הסטורי אשר לכבודו סודרו החגיגות, וכי למי היד . זה
איכפת היו חגיגות, תהלוכות ותזמורות ואנו הילדים,
היינו מקבלים אותם כדבר טבעי, כגשם־נדבות, מבלי
לשאול למה ומדוע, פרט ל״צ׳צ׳י מאי״ (ה־3 למאי) —
