... ר׳ יחאל־מאיר שפירא הגיע לבנדין לאחר גמר מלחמת העולם הראשונה ועסק שם ברבנות עד יומו האחרון (שאין יודעים מתי היה) וחיסול יהודי בנדין בידי הנאצים. ישב בבנדין בבית חומה ליד בית־הכנסת, רחב כתפים, בעל הדרת פנים, פאות ארוכות מסולסלות, נעול נעלים וגרבים לבנות, בלבוש קטיפה, משי ואטלס, וניהל שולחנות כדרך צדיקי קוזניץ ומוגלגיץ. ומבקריו — חסידים ואנשי מעשה, סוחרים ואומנים ולמדנים רבים — היו מתחממים לאורו, ויצא לו שם טוב בכל הסביבה כצדיק פיקח הבקי בהויות העולם, אוהב־ישראל מובהק בכל נפשו ומאודו, ותכונותיו אלה משתקפות היו גם בדברי תורתו ושיחותיו, מלבד בהליכו ת חייו ברוח "ואהבת לרעך כמוך".Connected nodes
