פולין. הסופר י. ד. ברקוביץ, חתנו, מספר בזכרונותיו: "גשם
חם של הערצה ויקרניתך אז על ראש שלום עליכם בערי השדה,
שבהן נערכו לו נשפי קריאה וקבלות פנים סוערות. בתחנות
מסילות־הברזל יצאו אליו חבורות יהודים להקביל פניו בתרועות
