— פעם הייתה הדרך בין בנדין לסוסנוביץ מלאה רפש וקשה
לנסיעה. רכבת לא הייתה. והדרך — דרך פרטית, קצרה וטובה,
שייכת לרוזן הגרמני שיין. יהודים פחדו לנסוע בה. אולם ראובן
ליור לא ידע פחד מהו, והשתמש בדרך. עד שנקרה לו יום אחד
הרוזן הגרמני, ובראותו יהודי נוסע בהרחבה בדרך, עצרו, ושאל
אותו, מי התיר לו זאת, ומבלי לחכות לתשובה הצליף בו בשוטו.
