... ובכניסה לסימטה עמד, כשומר לה, הבית של ר׳ יענקלה שפירא, יהודי זקן, בעל תפילה, שהיה מתמוגג בדמעות בתפילת הנני העני ממעש, עמד על משמרתו כמליץ יושר לישראל לפני הרבונדשל־עולם עד שנפל למשכב שלא ירד ממנו. והיה לו חבר וידיד נפש, יהודי זקן גם הוא, שהיה גורר את רגליו בכבדות; אלא כשנפל ר׳ יענקעלה למשכב היה בא מדי יום ביומו ועובר על פני ביתו, דופק לו בחלונו, מתייצב לפניו במתיחות הגוף כשהוא מקיש רגל ברגל כדרך איש צבא וקורא לו לר׳ יענקעלה, לעבר מיטתו, בלשון פולין: יענקעלע יעסטעם! כלומר: הנני! כך היה בא להודיעו, שעדיין הם עומדים שניהם על המשמר...Connected nodes
