הרבי קיבל את פסק־הדין בשקט ובשלווה, משל לא היה מכוון
אליו. מופשט היה מעניני העולם הזה, והכין עצמו לקראת עולם
הנצח. התפלל. על הטלית לבש מעיל עליון. חומשו בידו צעד
בשקט נפשי בלווי משמר כבד של חיילים מזויינים למקום ההריגה
— ליד ההר שמחוץ לעיר. בדרך רצו אחריו המת גדול שהתקלסו
בו וידו בו אבנים. במקום ההריגה ניגש אליו המורה־הוראה של
העיר. הרבי הושיט לו את ידו, ואמר, כי הוא נתון עתה בשוויוך
נפש גמור ומקבל על עצמו בשמחה למות מות קדושים ועל־ידי
כך יציל את יהודי העיר מהסכנה האורבת להם. בקשתו האחרונה
היתד" לבל ייערכו הספדים ולבל ילך קהל גדול אחרי ההלווייה.
