... בלבוב נכנסו לתוך המיליציה העברית, שהיתה שם ועבדו בה
עשרה ימים, אחרי־כן קיבלו מהממשלה האוקראינית רשות לנסוע
הלאה. עסקני הציונים הביטו עליהם בכל מקום כעל משוגעים,
אולם הם המשיכו דרכם בעקשנות רבה. מלבוב והלאה שוב הלכו
ברגל, באשר לא היתה רכבת, וכשהגיעו סוף־סוף לתחנה, היו כל
הרכבות עמוסות שבויים רוסיים, ששבו הביתה, ולא היה מקום
בשבילם. הם התחכמו ונסעו על גגות הרכבות, אחד אחד נסעו
ונפגשו שוב יחד באחת התחנות. כשהגיעו אחרי הרפתקאות רבות
לאודיסה, נכנסו לא. (הכוונה לאוסישקין ז״ל — המעתיק), ששמעו
