התקציב העירוני, הציעה הענקת סכום כסף לאגודת "תרבות". אנטישמי
אחד מסיעת ה״אנדקים" התנגד לכך, באמרו, שאין היהודים בפולין משתמשים
בשפה העברית המשמשת לפולחן דתי בלבד. בו ברגע קמה המנוחה רוטנר
והתחילה מדקלמת משירי ביאליק. מעמד מזהיר זה, שלא יישכח, עשה
רושם כביר על כל חברי העירייה והאורחים הנוכחים. התקציב ל״תרבות"
בסך אלף זהוב — אושר. הופעה אמיצה זו זכתה להוקרה בכל חוגי העיר
