Early shootings and massacres

The accounts describe mass shootings in Praga’s Garden and at Pietrasze Field, as well as more than a thousand murdered Jews left in Białystok’s streets. These testimonies show that mass murder began locally, before deportation transports carried people away [event_candidate_3f406af6475ae654a412f5eb; event_candidate_ee6112170bb49fcdb3c3bd9b; event_candidate_01e91ed9ff6b23da5f9e53cf].

Aktionen and terror

The February 1942 Aktion brought killings and despair, and a February 1943 Aktion murdered a newspaper seller and his wife. The final liquidation

In August 1943, Nazi forces liquidated the ghetto and ordered the remaining Jews to assemble; the last 1,200 children were transported away in the final days of the month. The evidence frames liquidation as the destruction of the remaining community, including its youngest members [event_candidate_3d1ba2efa88ccefd2e8c386a; event_candidate_3997ec?; event_candidate_857e030fc4ac4d0064f7c318].
