אײנמאל — מיר זענען געגאנגען שלאפן, די קינדער זענען
געװען זײער הונגעריק. איך האב מיט געװײן געלײעגט
קריאת־שמע, זיך באגאםן מיט טרערן, און בין אנטשלאפן
געװארן, האב איך אין חלום געזען מײן מאן נתן. ער פרעגט
מיך : װאם װײנסטו אזויפיל. איך ענטפער אים : איו װײן,
װײל די קינדער האבן נישט צו עםן, זײ זענען הונגעריק.
ענטפערט ער : זאגט דעם גוי, ער זאל אײך געבן עסן. איך
װעל אים נישט זאגן, זאג דו — האב איך געטענהט. די
קינדער זענען נישט געשלאפן פון גרוים הונגער און זײ האבן
געהערט װי איך רעד עפעס אזוי װי אין חלום. מײן זון, מרדכי,
פרעגט מיך: מאמעשי, מאמעשי, װאם רעדםטו אזוי פון
