אחרי מלחמת העולם הראשונה, התפתח ארגון מכבי האש. העיריה הקציבה סכומים ניכרים
לקניית אינונטאר ומימון פעולות. חברי הארגון, התמחו במלאכת כיבוי דליקות ולרוב, הצליחו
לאתר את הדליקה מיד עם בואם. מכבי האש, כמובן, היו חסרי ישע כשפרצה דליקה בסביבה,
שבתיה היו בתי עץ עם גגות קש. כך קרה שבשנת 1936 פרצה דליקה, באמצע היום, ברובע
