יוסף ולנוח שם עד לאחר חצות. אז היה קם, ודופק על תריסי הישנים : ,קומו לעבודת הבורא".
בקיץ ובחורף נהג כך -- ולא החסיר ליל שבת. מנורת-נפט גדולה היתה דולקת באולם בית-
הכנסת. והנה אירע. באחד מלילות-השבת החרפיים, שיצאה אש והבעירה את התקרה ואף הקירות
נתלקחו. באין מפריע פשטה האש מסביב וקרבה אל ארון הקודש -- ור' שלמה לייזר ישן שנת
ישרים. ובא ר' ישראל יוסף אליו בחלומו ויקרא: -- שלמה לייזר, מה לך, ישן? בית-המדרש
עולה באש. -- ולא ניעור. משך בו ואמר: -- מהר וקום! הן גם אתה עולה באש! -- התעורר
ר' שלמה לייזר פתאום וראה עצמו מוקף להבות אש. -- לא ידעתי מה עלי לעשות -- סיפר
