ביום הראשון לביקורי התחלתי לעבור ברחובות העיר, מעולם, לא ימחה מזכרוני הרגע
שבו הגעתי לביתו של וולף איזנברג (ביילקס) ולמגרש בתי-הכנסת (שולהויף). כל בתי-הכנסת
נהרסו כליל ונשארו ארבעה קירות בלבד מן ה;שטיבל" החסידי. עמדתי בפינה, כשמולי מזדקרת
מצד אחד הכנסיה הפרבוסלבית בטבור השוק אשר נפגעה רק בכיפתה, ומצד שני -- בתי-הכנסת
החרבים. דומה היה כאילו פצתה הכנסיה את פיה לאמור : ,באת לבית-קברות של עמך; ראה,
ביתך החריבו, עמך הושמד ולא יקום לתחיה, אמנם גם אני נפגעתי בראשי, אך עמי אתי, ואתרפא
