נאכ׳ן עסן האבן די באלאכאװצעם מיר באפוילן, איך זאל זיי מאכן געלעגרם, צום שלאפן. איינער פון דער באנדע האט, אפנים צו שרעקן מיר, געהאלטן די גאנצע צייט זײן רעװאלװער אנגעשטעלט אויף מיר. די טײװלאנישע שפיל איז מיר נישט געפעלן געװארן׳ האב איך מיט א געמאכטער רואיקײט און שמײכל ארויסגענומען דעם רעװאלװער פון זײן האנט. דאס האט דעם באלאכאװעץ אביסל צעטומלט, און ער זאגט צו מיר: ״אײד זאל נישט מורא האבן צו האלטן א רעװאלװער אין האנט?״ די באנדיטן האבן זיך צעלײגט שלאפן און זײנען גלײך אײנגעשלאפן. איך נעם ארויםגײן פון צימער, ערשט אײן באלאכאװעץ גיט מיך א רוף אין ײדיש. איך בין געװארן דערשטוינט און פרעג אים צי ער איז א ײד. ענטפערט ער: ״שוױיג״. און גיט צו: ״מיר װעלן דיר גארנישט טאן, דו מוזט אבער, געבן אונז אינדערפרי צװײ טויזנט מארק װעלן מיר אפפארן פון שטאט.״
