ד״ר סטניסלברוּף וויקטור חיות השתתפו החל
משנת 1880 בתנועות המחתרת הפולנית. בשנת 1897,
כשפרופסור מיכאל בובז׳ינטקי (1:ז31 םץ2 ז808), יי״ר
ועדת החינוך בגליציה, הנהיג תלבושת־חובה לתלמידי
הגימנסיות ובתי־הספר הריאליים, התארגנו הסטודנטים
הפולנים, וכדי להדגיש את האופי הלאומי בתלבושת
החליטו לחבוש כובע לאומי "בטורובקה". ביעד המארגן
היה גם ויקטור חיות שהורחק מהגימנסיה בשל כך.
בשנים 1902 — 1904 אורגנה מחתרת פולנית על
ידי מאקס לנדוי מברודי. הארגון הוציא־לאור והפיץ
כתב־עת בלתי־ליגלי בשם "דבר החופש הפולני"
(0^5100ס151ס ק0מ1ס^\\), בשבת 1892, כשביקר
הקיסר פרנץ־יוזף בלבוב, לכלכו לנדוי ותא המחתרת
שתחת פיקודו, את הכרוזים של מושל העיר, אשר
קראו את תושבי העיר לקבל את פני הקיסר. לנדוי
