'־) כ״ך גורש מלבוב הגאון הידוע ר׳ מאיר בן גדליה
(מהר״ם מלובלין), שבא לבוב בשנת 1599 כאב־בית־דין.
סכסוך נפל בין המהר״ם ותלמידו של פאלק, ר׳ אברהם
שרנציל הכהן רפפורט, מחבר "איתם האזרחי", שהחזיק
בכספו ישיבה והיה גבאי־צדקה ונשיא ארץ־ישראל.
בשנת 1613 השתתף המהר״ם בחתונת בנו. כשעזב את
ביתו, ליווהו ר׳ שרענציל עד ביתו. המהר״ם לא שם לב
שהוא הולך אתו, וכשהגיע הביתה העיר לו אשתו על
כך. השיב המהר״ם: האם אינני ראוי לכך שלא רק הוא,
אלא גם רבו (פאלק) ילוני הערה זו הרגיזה את ד׳
שרענציל, והוא הביא את הענין לפני ישיבת הקהל׳ בהשפעתו
ובעזרת קרובו ר׳ מרדכי נחמנוביץ הוחלט לפטר את המרה״ם
מבית־הדין והוא הוכרח לעזוב מיד את העיר. מלבוב נסע
ללובלין ושם כיהן כרב עד פטירתו, בשנת 1616 (ש. בובר,
