... ברובעים היהודים השתררה מבוכה ופחד מפני
הרוסים. ב־3 בספטמבר 1914 נכנס צבא רוסי אל העיר,
ומיד התחילו הקוזקים להתנפל על יהודים ולשדוד
מהם שעונים ותכשיטים. חנויות היהודים היו סגורות.
ורק אחרי שהמפקדה הרוסית הודיעה על איסור חמור
של שוד והפקעת סחורות, נפתחו החנויות, שבעליהם
נשארו בעיר. חנויות הנמלטים נפתחו ע״י קרובים או
