יעקב ב״ר בנימין ז״ק היה חתנו של ר׳ אפרים
ראש בית־דין ביולינה בעל ס׳ "שער אפרים", בשנת
ת״ח נדד ר׳ יעקב ובני־ביתו מארצו ונתישב במורביה,
שם שימש כרב אב״ד בטרביטש וברידא ואחרי כן קבע
ישיבתו באובן ושמעו הלך עד טורקיה וארצות המזרח,
אז נולד לו בנו צבי, כאשר שקטה הארץ התישבו זקנו
בעל "שער אפרים" ואבי ר׳ יעקב בבודה אשר
בהונגריה, ובהיות הנכד צבי נער רך בשנים למד
תורה מפי זקנו ומפי אביו, בימי חרפו הלך לשאלוניקי
להתרגל בדרכי לימוד חכמי הספרדים ושימש שם ביהוד
