האדוקים הקימו ארגון בשם "מחזיקי הדת"
והוציאו עתון ליטוגרפי באידית, "דאס רואהרע יודענ־
טום", בו פרסמו מאמרי־הסתה נגד "שומר ישראל".
אחרי כן הוציאו שבועון בשם "מחזיקי הדת" בעברית.
בפברואר—מרס 1879 התקיימו בחירות אל ועד־הקהלה
בשלוש קוריות, אך בלי מלחמת מפלגות, מפני שהושג
