התפוצצות של מחסן אבק־שריפה שנמצא בתוך הרובע
היהודי (בואימוב) הרבה בתים נהרסו ו־36 יהודים
נהרגו, וביניהם המגיד ר׳ שמרל כץ 0), המנהיג ר׳ נפתלי
הרץ בר׳ יחיאל רובל׳ הדיין ר׳ אשר בר׳ ראובן 7). טרם
הספיקו היהודים להתאושש ואסון חדש בא עליהם:
בשנת 1704 הסתערו השבדים וב־6 בספטמבר כבשו את
העיר. הפרברים ותושביהם היהודים היו שוב הראשונים
לסבול והקהלה בחוץ־לעיר הושמדה לחלוטין, פליטי
הפרברים נמלטו לרובע היהודים בתוך־העיר והצטופפו
ברחובות. לפי דברי סופר־הזכרונות חודינצקי 8),
השתתפו היהודים במרץ רב בהגנת העיר. יהודי אחד
נהרג בשעת ירייתו בתותח על עמדות האויב. השבדים
