מיד תפסתיבטלפון והתקשרתי עם שר־הפרשים
מונצינסקי... ואני מצוה: אדוני שר־הפרשים ישלח
מיד פלוגה בהנהגת קצין מוכשר ל״טמפל", כדי להגן
עליו. את התוצאות תודיע מיד, אני מחכה בטלפון.
מונצינסקי חזר מיד על פקודתי ותיכף יצאה הפלוגה.
שלושת הזקנים חיכו לתוצאית ואני הרגעתים, שהסדר
יוחזר על כנו... כעבור רבע שעה צלצל הטלפון
ומונצינסקי מסר הודעה, שפשוט קשה להאמין בה:
"הפלוגה שנשלחה מצאה את סביבת ה״טמפל" שקטה
לגמרי, אך מתוך הנחה שהסתתרו שם שודדים, פתחה
את השער וערכה חיפוש, ובמקום ארון־הקודש מאחירי
הפרוכת נמצאה מכונת־יריה וכמה תיבות כדורים
ולמעלה מעשרה רמוני־יד". התקצפתי ונזפתי ברמי־
