אשכנזי, בספרו "צער בת רבים או מספד פולניא" 11 ),
מתאונן לאמור: "על אלה אני בוכיה (פולניה) יומם
ולילה, על המכה שהיתה בק״ק לעמבערג, עיר גדולה,
כי לא היתה כזאת בכל הגולה. איך באו השונאים
וסבבו כל מסלה, לעקור האומה אשר לשה פזורה
נמשלה, ומבפנים היתה המכה כפולה, מגפה וכל
תקלה, גם מים לא היו לה, כי בימים קדמונים היתה
תחבולה שהיה מעין אחד חוץ לעיר ומשכו בו צינורות
לתוך העיר ומשם דלה דלה, ועכשיו כשבאו השונאים
חתמו המעין ולא מצאו רפואה ותעלה, ועשו תשובה
מעולה, ולפני כסא כבודו נתקבלה. ומתו ששה
אלפים 12 ) מעם סגולה. ואילו לא היו נותנים הון גדול
לבני עולה, היו כולם כליל כמו עולה. ואתה ה׳ עומד
זבולה, תנקם נקמת צדיקים, אשר נתנו כבוד ותהילה.
