... ר׳ יצחק שוובל, המכונה ר׳ איציק ל ז׳ולקובר, היה
אדם מופלא, עמקן ובעל־מחשבות, בקי בתורת הנגלה
והנסתר. נולד בשנת 1840 בעיר זולקיב, במשפחת
תלמידי־חכמים המתיחשים למשפחת הבעש״ט. לא נודעו
הרבה פרטים על דרכי לימודו, בבחרותו עבר את
הגבול הרוסי ונסע לקפוסט, ובמשך 3 שנים למד
תורה וחסידות אצל בעל "צמח־צדק", האדמו״ר ר׳
מנדל מלובאוויץ, הצטיין בתורה והיה מתלמידיו
החביבים. ר׳ איציק ל חזר הביתה ובעל "צמדרצדק"
נתן לו במתנה כאות אהבה כמה כתבי־יד של ספריו
וספרים רבים. ר׳ איציק ל העביר את הכתבים והספרים
דרך הגבול הרוסי, דבר שהיה כרוך בקושי ובסכנת
