במאה העשירית הגיעו כבר לרייסין יהודים
מביצנץ וכוזריה — הם היו מתווכי המסחר בין המזרח
והמערב בכביש האליץ—קיוב—הים השחור, בערי
רייסין 1) גרו יהודים זמן רב לפני בוא המתישבים
הגרמנים והפולנים. בעת ההיא נמצאו בלבוב מלבד
רותנים וטטרים גם יהודים, שנהנו מזכויות מסויימות
בימי נסיכי רייסין. יחד עם היהודים השתקעו בלבוב
גם קראים ובית הכנסת שלהם נמצא במקום שבקרבתו
נבנה אחרי כן בית הכנסת העירוני(שטעטישע שוהל).
ביודיהקברות הקראי היה לא דחוק מהרובע הקרקובי 2).
היהודים התגוררו בקצה דרומי~מערבי של חומת
העיר, בכיוון לרחוב זולקיבסקא־רינק, במספר בתים
קטנים, ועל ידם — מחסנים, אורוות וממגורות. אחרי
שנבנתה העיר החדשה באמצע המאה ה־עמ. הפכה
העיר העתיקה לפרבר, בעיר החדשה קמה — מלבד
הקהלה היהודית שבעיר העתיקה וקהלה קראית, —
גם קהלה יהודית שלישית, וכך נשארו בלבוב בתקופה
הראשונה שני ישובים יהודים: בפנים העיר גרו
יהודים יוצאי ארצות המערב < וברובע הקרקובי
(קראקעווער פארשטאט) יהודים, שמוצאם היה
מכוזריה, מארצות המזרח, וקראים. שתי הקהילות
