... במאי 1818 הגישו פרנסי־הקהלה תלונה נגד
הפרנס בר חיים מודלינגר, הידוע בפעולתו כמנהל
פנקס רישום האוכלוסין, שאסף בספים למען יהודי
ארץ־ישראל 12). אכן, לא ידוע מה עשו השלטונות
בענין תלונה זו, אולם בהמשך החקירה נתברר שאת
הכספים אסף אחד קוליקובר, שהשתמש בטופסי
קבלות חתומות בידי הרב ר׳ יעקב משולם אורנשטיין
ובר־חיים מודלינגר, מזכיר קהלת לבוב. לפי ההודעה
שמסר אברהם כהנא לשלטונות, שידל מודלינגר אותו
ועוד שלשה יהודים שיעלו לארץ־ישראל, ושיאספו
כספים לשם זה. כן הגיעה מסירה בעילוכדשם על
ב״ח מודלינגר והרב ר׳ יעקב משולם אורנשטיין שהם
עוסקים באיסוף כספים למען ארץ־ישראל, אך החקירה
