... אור ליום ה־22 ביוני 1941 (לפנות בוקר) נתעוררו תושבי לבוב משנתם לרעב פצצות אשר המטירו האוירונים הגרמנים על העיר השקטה. איסטרטגית ההפתעה הנאצית היתה מושלמת. באותו יום, בבוקר הכריז המיניסטר לעניני חוץ של ברית־המועצות, כי פרצה המלחמה בין רוסיה וגרמניה בגלל התנפלות פתאומית מצד הגרמנים.
