התנועה הפראנקיסטית כשהיא לעצמה לא הכתה
שרשים עמוקים בקהלה בלבוב. אמנם עוד בשנת 1754
הגיע לבובה ליב קריסא, יאמנו של פראנק, והתחיל
בתעמולתו. הוא הצליח לקרב מספר מאמינים, והם גם
קיבלו את פני פראנק כשהגיע בדצמבר 1755 לבובה.
ביניהם היה גם צעיר בן עשרים׳ שלקח מהוריו 50
דוקאטי ם באמתלה שהוא יוצא לקנות דבש. ויצא
אח״כ עם פראנק לסאלוניקי. בלבוב התגורר פראנק
בבית סמוך לשער האליצקי, שנקרא בפי היהודים
"בית אופל", וקשה היה לקבוע מה מתרחש בבית זה.
