מכיוון שהאספקה הרשמית לא יכלה לספק את
הצרכים, היה חלק של האוכלוסיה היהודית, שעוד
השיגה ידם לקנות דבר, קונה צרכי־מכולת בשוק
השחור. המחירים בשוק השחור האמירו ללא גבול.
בשנת 1941 עלה כבר מחיר הלחם עד 30 וגם 40 זהוב
הככר (1400 גרם), מחיר ק״ג חמאה — 200 זהוב,
קופסת גפרורים — 1,50 זהוב וכד. אבל מלבד המחירים
הגבוהים היתה הקניה בשוק השחור כדוכה בסכנת־
נפשות., והגרמנים רדפו את העבריינים באכזריות.
