... יונגבונצלו י בבוהמיה. אביו שלמה כהן היה רוכל. הבן
למד תנ״ך ותלמוד ומצא בהם עגין רב. בהיותו בן
שתים־עשרה עבר ליונגבונצלו י וגמר שם חוק למודים
הומניסטיים, אך בעת ובעונה אחת למד גם תלמוד
אצל הרב יצחק שפיטץ. עסק בעבודה אצל יהודי
עשיר, אך פוטר לאחר שנתפס בקריאת ספר צרפתי.
עבר לפיסאק והתפרנס מהוראה פרטית. כאן דרש את
דרשתו הראשונה לרגל חנוכת ביודהתפילה החדש.
זמן מסוים עשה בפראג יהתידד עם הרב ר׳ שמואל
לנדוי, שנתן לו היתר־הוראה. גם הרב שמואל קוידרם
בקאלאדאי שבהונגריה נתן לו כתב־סמיכות. הירץ
הומברג העניק לו תעודה פדגוגית ללימוד הדת. בשנת
1833 קיבל משרת רב בהוהנעמם, עבד כמורה בשני
בתי־ספר: בבית־הספר הגרמני ובבית־הספר הדתי,
שהיה מנהלו ובו לימד דה ושפה עברית. בבית־
התפילה הכניס תיקונים; קיצר את התפילה, הכניס
מקהלה, תיק ן שיקראו לתורה בשם פרטי ובשם משפחה,
