... אמנם, האצילים שנמלטו מן העיר לפני המצור
קבלו פצויים, לפי פסק־דין של בית־המשפט אחרי
שובם, בעד בתיהם וארמנותיהם שבפרברים שעלו
באש כתוצאה מפעולות המלחמה, — אולם, ליהודים
בפרברים שסבלו הרס לא נתנו כל פצויים. האצולה
הבינה את מצב היהודים ודרשה ב״סיימיק" בוישניה
לשחרר ממסים את יהודי הפרברים, שבתיהם נשרפו
ונהרסו לשם הגנת־העיר, ילפדות את בני התערובת
שנשבו בידי התורכים. אך העירונים לא התחשבו כלל
