... אכן, שמו של אחד משליחי־הצבור נזכר בהזדמנות
של פרעות שהיו בלבוב. בהתנגשות שהיתה בשנת
1664 בין היהודים והרותנים בלבוב, מסופר, שגם
הש״ץ יוסף חיות נהרג בשעה שעמד בתפילה,
אך לא נמסרו פרטים עליו. כן נמסר באחד המקוי־ות,
שליהודי לבוב ופרבריה היה שליח־צבור, שהיה גם
מלמד־דרדקי, שלא קיבל משכורת קבועה, אלא התפרנס
ממשלוח־מנות בפורים וממתנות שמחת־תורה והוא
קיבל תשלום בכל שמחה, חתונה וכדו / מכאן אנו
למדים שמצבו הכלכלי של החזן ושל יתר בעלי
תפקידים צבוריים לא היה סוגה בשושנים, ולעתים
