ר׳ משה יחייאל סשהטיל שלטון תקיף על בני קהלתו
קיבל את דינו ונכנע לסמכותו. הוא לא נרתע גם
מפני הגבירים העשירים, שהופיעו לפני בית־דיו וידע
לכפות עליהם את פסק־דינו. אנשי־הקהלה ראו בו
פטרון, שעמד על משמרת עניניהם, כי ידע "לפקח על
שיהיו כולם מאושרים ומסודרים מונהגים ביושר, כדת
משה וישראל, הן בעסקי הקהל ובערכי המסים הכבדים,
עסקי הרבים והיחידים, בכלל ובפרט. שם כל מעיינו
והן בדברים שבין אדם לחברו, לשים משפט אמת בארץ
