שיצאלו שם באירופה כ״כוכב״ ברינה ובתפלה׳
בקולו ובגרונו המפליא. נולד בלוגאן (יוהלין). עוד
בימי ילדותו נתגלו בו כשרונות מוסיקליים והיה
למשורר אצל החזן העירוני פסטרנק בבית־הכנסת
בברדיצ׳וב. בעצתי ידיד נסע לפטרבורג ולקח שעורים
מפי המוסיקאי הגדול אנטון רובינשטין, שהיה אז
מנהל הקונסרבטוריון. הצטיין בלימודיו והיה לבחיר
התלמידים. אף ערך קונצרטים בלוית מורו רובינשטין
בערי רוסיה, אך לבו לא נמשך לאופירה ולזמרה
חילונית, אלא לחזנות. הוא עזב את הבירה וכיהן
כחזן ברוסטוב ע״נ דון ובברדיצ׳וב. ב־1873 נתקבל
לחזן ב״היכל״ בלבוב. ב־1879 עבר לאודיסה, שם
יסד מקהלה מעורבת יפה והתחיל לאסוף ולכתוב את
יצירותיו המפורסמות והוציאן לאור בספר "שירות
יעקב״ בשנת 1884. הוא קיבל תואר פרופיסור למוסיקה
ועבד קנטטה שחיבר לחגיגת ההכתרה של הקיסר
הרוסי קיבל מכתב־תודה בחתימת הצאר. ...Connected nodes
