הנאספים, ובשבח והודיה ענו אחריו "למנצח בנגינות
מזמור שיר: אלוקים יחננו ויברכנו, יאר פניו אתנו,
סלה". מנהג היה בבתי־הכנסת, שהקהל אמר את
המזמור הראשון בעמדו בחוץ ודלתות בית־הכנסת
נעולים, ובגמרו את המזמור "הבו לד׳ בני אלים"
ניגש השמש או החזן אל הדלת הנעולה, דפק שלוש
דפיקות בידית־הנחושת העגולה הצמודה לדלת, ואז
היה הקהל נכנס להיכל ומתחיל במזמור "למנצח
