הגרמנים מומחה גדול בפעולות־ההשמדה. סטרופ
נשאר בלבוב שנה. עד אפריל 1943, שאז נקרא
לוארשה לנהל את המלחמה במורדי הגיטו. בראש
ה״יו־לאג" הועמד מפקד מטעם הס.ם., הראשון היה
קצין הס.ס. מנספלד׳ ושלישו — סילר. אחריו נתמנה
מפקד קצין הס.0 (הו׳פטשטורמפירער של ה0.ס׳)
יוסף גז׳ימעק׳ וסגנו היניש. גז׳ימעק, שנכנס לתפקידו
ב־19 לפברואר 1943, היה האכזר מכולם. עוד לפני
בואי ללביב הצטיין כמפקד מחנה־הריכוז ליהודים
ביאקטורוב (בגליציה המזרחית); הוא שחיסל את
המחנה אחרי שהכרת את כל אסיריו היהודים. אח״כ
היה מארגן הגיטו ברווא־רוסקא. גם גיטו זה׳ שהיה —
לדבריו — "גיטו למופת" בשל משמעת־הברזל ועבודת
הפרך ששררו בו, חוסל על ידו. גז׳ימעק עינה את יהודי
ה״יו־לאג" בלבוב ורדה בהם׳ במעשי־תעתועיש׳
בנגישות׳ ברדיפות ועינויים קשים, ובדרישותיו
המופרזות בעניני משמעת ונקיון. דרישות שגבלו
