הקצב, המתהדר בזקן רחב ומתולתל ועל אף גילו המופלג עדיין

נמנתה גם עז־התנוסס "בית העם" המכובד, לא רחוק מביתו של
משה "פגירה" (חייט נמוך־קומה ורזה עד לההריד, סובל
מאסטמה ומשעול כרוני וטורדני־ומכאן כינויו). בקומת הקרקע
של בית־העם שלושה חדרים מרווחים, אחד מהם תפסה הספריה
שאפוטרופסיה היו שני בחורים אינטליגנטיים, שלמה שווארצוך
ואברהמצ׳יה בילגורי. בשני החדרים הנוספים התארח לפני
הצהריים גן הילדים ואחרי הצהריים התקיימו בהם שיעורי בית
הספר העברי. את הקומה השניה תפס אולם גדול עם במה
וקלעים. באולם זה היו מקיימים בחירות, חתונות והצגות בבצועו
של חוג חובבים, ששחקניו המוכשרים ביותר היו: ליבה אדלמן,
מוטל האוזנר, מוטל פיש ואחרים. באולם זה נערכו גם מסיבות
ומופעים שהוכנו ואורגנו ע״י מורי בית הספר העברי וועד ההורים
שלו. התרגשות מיוחדת הסבו לנו תמיד ההכנות למופעים
האמנותיים שבהם הצטיינו כמה מחברי וחברותי: הינדה׳לה
