עברו שנים אחדות. קרבה שנת 1812. והפולנים
התנחמו בתקוות חדשות. ערב המלחמה הגדולה הגבירה
הממשלה הרוסית את פיקוחה והכריזה מצב־מלחמה בכל
החבל. לאחר זמן עברו גייסות צרפת את גבול רוסיה
וצבא רוסיה נסוג. אחרי כיבוש וילנה ארגן נפוליון את
החבל המשוחרר, בהועידו ממשלה זמנית בליטא, שבה
נכללה גם סוקולקה. שמחה זו ארכה רק חדשים מספר.
ב־26 לדצמבר 1812 חזרו הרוסים לליטא ללא שפך דם.
בימי מלחמת נפוליון מסר הגינירל הרוסי דוידוב, שלא
נתן אמון יתר בפולנים, את השלטון על העיר לידי
