... לחיים תרבותיים. נוסדו מפלגות, הסתדרות-נוער, "צעירי-ציון", "המרכז", "קדימה",
"פרחי ציון", "חרות ותחיה", "ליטערארישע געזאלשאפט", "הבונד", "יוגענד-פאראיין", "המזרחי",
"פועלי-צדק". התחילו בהכנות לבחירות לועד הקהילה,
רשות רשימה מוכרת ע״י שלטונות הכבוש, שתהיה נציגת העדה היהודית. רוב המפלגות בעירנו היו ציוניות.
המפלגה האנטי-ציונית היחידה היה "הבונד" שנלחם
במרץ ובעוז בציונות ובשפה העברית. אבל השפעתו
היתה דלה. החלק המכריע של יהודי סוקולקה היו ציונים
לאומיים ואנשי מסורת. "הבונד" השתדל לחדור
לצבור העובדים, אל דלת-העם ולהסיתם נגד הציונות
ונגד ארץ-ישראל. ובהיות חלק גדול מן הפועלים בעלי־
המלאכה דתי ושומר־מסורת, יסדו מפלגת פועלים דתית
בשם "פועלי צדק". בראש המפלגה עמדו איזיק הכובען, משה בערל החייט, שמואל הירש החייט וחייקל
הסנדלר. לקראת הבחירות הופיעה רשימה חדשה. מפלגת "פועלים בלתי־מפלגתיים", מתנגדים ל״בונד".
בראש הרשימה עמדו מאיר ילוביץ ומאיר שרייבמאן.
התעמולה לקראת הבחירות היתה רבה: אסיפות, נאומים, הבטחות לדאוג לישוב היהודי ולספק את צרכיו.
האסיפות היו בבית-הכנסת ותחת כפת השמים, היו
השמצות הדדיות וויכוחים ללא סוף, כל העיר היתה
