... בשנת 1919 בנו בעין־חי שני בתים, כי בוטלו כל
הגזירות מימי התורכים. עזרתם של יהודי אמריקה
היתה גדולה והנוער היהודי מאירופה עלה בהמוניו
ארצה, בעיקר על־ידי "החלוץ", ובתגובה להצהרת
בלפור ותנועת העליה, התחילו בשנת 1920 פרעות הערבים, שפגעו גם בעולים החדשים. בין הפצועים היתה
גם אחת מסוקולקה, עדה לוין, בהתנפלות שהיתה גם
על עין־חי מצד הכפרים הערביים הסמוכים. כמובן שבכל
נקודה היה נשק, אולם בגלל היחס העוין מצד הצבא
